Hi,

My work mail server styx.ooc.com.au has a 'backup' mail server
atlas.bit.net.au which is supplied to us by our ISP. The respective
preference values are 50 and 100.

My boss is having troubles with his mail. To make life more interesting
people are sending email to an an alias (michi at iona.com) to an alias
(mhenning at iona.com) to a real address (michi at ooc.com.au). I think all the
aliases are resolved before atlas (ISP MX) is contacted.

I am a little confused by the error message below (names have been changed
to protect the innocent). Is this saying that atltas tried to talk to styx
(451) but couldn't so it denies relaying (550 5.7.1) and then
mail.boston.iona.ie decides that means user unknown? Is this the right
interpretation?

If so, do you think I should ask the ISP to set up their server to accept
all mail to any destination address at ooc.com.au? (I have a feeling that
bruce will LART me for this idea.)

Thanks,

Raymond
