A hub/switch does not have a MAC address, it is a layer-1 device and
thus invisbile and non-addressible from the point-of-view of the
network layer (unless it is a "managed hub" with an IP stack).
I believe the hardware can be thought of as a "10 meg backplane" and
"100 meg backplane" joined by a bridge. The physical RJ45 connectors
are connected to one or the other backplane, depending on which
protocol is detected by the "housekeeping" hardware.
