i think i loaded the icq module or the ftp module which ended up enabling 
it to work. i no longer have my settings unfortunately, this old gateway 
has been through a lot. never again will anyone i live with get the root 
password, and nobody with enough knowledge to hack the root password will 
ever again have an account either.
