Hi All,

As you all know, we have a meeting coming up this weekend. However, we
currently don't have any talks planned, and we don't have any firm
committments from anyone regarding talk topics yet.

I think that talks are just one easy way for HUMBUG to attract and retain the
interest of members and prospective members, and it's very easy for you to get
involved. Giving a talk dosen't have to be complicated: at worst, all you
need to do is have a topic and a good idea of what you want to talk about,
and put your hand up to present it. I know of plenty of folks in HUMBUG
who have expertise with many interesting topics, why not step forward and
volunteer to share your knowlege? Here are some ideas for potential talk
topics (some of these are topics that HUMBUG members have knowlege of):

 * Open Source licences and licensing issues.
 * DBMS's like Oracle which have Linux ports.
 * BSD vs. System V init.
 * foo/bar/baz programming or scripting language of choice.
 * Discussion of a certain network protocol.
 * Name your topic!

If you want to do a talk, feel free to make a post to H-TALKS or H-GEN, and
arrange to present it at a HUMBUG meeting.

-warmest regards,

Ben.

P.S. Exec members: what's the drill for booking alternative rooms for talks
during HUMBUG meetings? I an presently sadly ignorant of how this is
 supposed to be arranged.
