Quoting from http://www.cai.com/press/2000/11/arcserve7_linux.htm....

<quote>
ARCserve 7 for Linux is available as an Advanced Edition solution within
the
ARCserve family of solutions. ARCserve 7 for Linux will be sold and
marketed through
the two-tier channel at a suggested retail price of $1,395. The Backup
Agent For
Oracle and Disaster Recovery Option will be sold as separate components
at suggested
retail prices of $995 and $695 respectively. Additional information is
available
at http://www.ca.com/arcserve.
</quote>

While these prices are probably quite reasonable compared to their
counterparts for other platforms, they are probably a bit more than I
would be willing to pay given that there is other quite suitable
solutions available for free. However, when it come time to do hot
backups of Oracle I will probably revisit this option.

The other thing I noticed while browsing the CA pages is the claim that
they are "..offering the first Disaster Recovery solution for the Linux
environment,..". This claim seems a little, shall we say, exagerated?

Cheers
Michael

P.S. For those that may be interested, after fixing another little
glitch in flexbackup, the whole thing works like a charm. Now, as long
as I got my cron entry right I should have a full daily backup every
morning when I arrive at work 8^)
