You may need to adjust your timeouts if you have made any recent
changes?
I have had some similar problems with my modem....up to about 6 months
ago connecting to UQ as an external client I had no problem getting and
maintaining indefinite 44,000 connections and sometimes 48,000. Then
something happened...I know not what but something definitely
happened...whether it was a change in UQ modems or a change in Telstra
lines (it has been suggested that Telstra is instituting traffic shaping
to limit modem speeds and boost sales of cable/dsl/satellite I have no
knowledge of this and include it only as speculation and for comment
from those who might have the knowledge). It could also have been that
some Telstra technician needed a nice noise free line for someone and
swapped my line for another in the area (more speculation).
I have no idea what happened but I know something happened and I got
those 20 minute drop-outs...my phone bill doubled in a month!
I had the lines checked and a new link put in the Telstra cables but it
had no effect.
I contacted Telstra and had a MOLS test done and found that, although I
could maintain 44 or 48 K links a short while before I now had to reduce
my speed to no more than 31 K to stop the drop-outs.
My modem is as slow as a wet week but Telstra advise that they will not
guarantee more than 28.8 K, others appear to have been told 14.4 K, 9.6
K and 2400 bit.
You can imagine I am more than a bit pissed off.
