This is pretty much exactly what I do.  Give me an xterm, screen, and
maybe emacs20, and I'm away.

Yes, its handling of modal dialogs leaves a lot to be desired.

It does appear to be more friendly toward mouse-oriented apps than
ratpoison, though (which isn't saying much, since ratpoison is
supposed to be mouse-*hostile*).
