Up to a point :)  It really depends on who has the trademark this week.  I
read somewhere that had changed hands again recently - anyone want to
comment.

Kind of :)

Anyone remember Willian Della Croce Jnr?  He tradmarked "Linux" in the US
and then demanded royalties to use the word.  He was LARTed by several big
men in black suits.  Well, kind of - he was taken to court and lost
the case as the word was already in common use at the time of the tm being
taken out (iirc).  Then we was LARTed.

Because they are standards.  POSIX.  Breaking standards now is not a good
idea (tm).  Any such attempt would cause a split in the Linux movement
with a good deal of the talent staying with the standards, imho.
