[ Worthwhile understanding: http://www.humbug.org.au/netiquette.html ]
I'm going to take my life in my hands by asking the age-old question -
should I use a Vi variant or an Emacs variant as my editor?
I am currently using Vim, and slowly getting accustomed to it. I
generally use it for coding, specifically Python for work, and Perl for
uni. I just started working at ITS at the Uni of Wollongong (long story)
and there is a minor editor war going on here. As far as I can tell, the
systems group is evenly split over this one. So I thought I'd try and
work out *why* I should use one over the other, as opposed to the
current "vi is from the dark ages" and "emacs is too kludgy" that is all
I'm getting.
People who have used both - why did you choose one over the other?
What I like about vi: the command line at the bottom is nice, since
I tend to do a lot of searching and substitution.
What I don't like about vi: the modes tend to confuse me a lot.
Input, please?
Sarah
