Many thanks to those who responded to this.
The responses gave me some more clues in my search, sufficient to find a really
nice solution. I think it is so good that I feel the need to tell others about
it - not sure how many on this list would be interested though :-) - so
please bear with me.
The program is called RDESKTOP. It is an open source project on SourceForge
written by Mathew Chapman at University of NSW. The main url is
http://www.rdesktop.org and for additional Win2k TS support,
http://bibl4.oru.se/projects/rdesktop/ contains an archive of patches that can
be applied.
For anyone with a similar need to mine, I thoroughly reccommend this solution.
It is a lot faster than VNC, and doesn't seem to introduce any extra security
issues. It ensures that all native NT processing is done on NT. It is small
and easy to manage - a single 70k binary file (110k with win2k support).
Three cheers for Open Source !
