Yeah, OK, but it did come up again within the last 2 months.  That's
"recent weeks" for me.

Yes, I read this as well, but I figured that going into the nitty-gritty
of it was beyond what was required here.  At the end of it you'll see that
Rik places caveats on what Linus was saying, but he basically agrees that
for normal swap performance then at least 2xRAM is the way to go.

As for him saying that this is a Bad Thing (TM) and that he wants to fix
it, again I didn't feel this is appropriate to mention in this context.

You should pay better attention.  :-)

If you're still having trouble then try the Linux MM pages.  Lots of
interesting goodies in there, and seeing all the bugs and their
resolutions coming through bugzilla can be really insightful.
