Ok folks I have hit upon something that has stumped me. The way i connect
to the net is via a small script in /etc/ppp which I have been using for
over a year now and it has worked sweetly. Up until last sunday. Now
nothing really has changed on this machine. Now the problem I have now is I
cannot dial out using ppp-on from a command line (as I have been doing for
a long time), the only way I can dial it is from within an X session using
a terminal prog. then it will sometimes dial (maybe 80% chance it will
connect) When I say it won't dial out I mean it doesn't even take the modem
off hook. Using an X session does work BUT I had to find a monitor to plug
into the box and there is no room to put it comfortably near the box. I
WANT MY SSH IN and dial from my other workstation machine (Save getting out
of my chair if the line drops)

In short Problem is I can't dial out from a command line but I can dial
from an X session.

Can someone give me an idea why and what might be done to fix it
