[ Humbug *General* list - semi-serious discussions about Humbug and ]
[ Unix-related topics. Please observe the list's charter. ]

I may very shortly be in a position where I have to choose a system to do
web application development so I need to investigate my options. This
system will need to have good database integration.

Current candidates that I know of and a few random thoughts on them are as
follows..

*	PHP/PHPLIB	I like this one, but a RAD tool would be nice.
Someone using this really needs to know what they are doing (not necessarily
a bad thing!)
*	PERL		No....
*	ColdFusion I know nothing about this yet
*	Enhydra Have had a play with it, seems nice, need to look at
the RAD tool from Plugged In (need to know java?)
*	Zope Seems nice enough, need to know Python to be able to
do anything useful
*	MS Visual Studio	*puke* Nice development environment when
it's not crashing every 15 minutes. Only runs on MS platforms.

That's all I know of for now. I would appreciate it if those who have done
this sort of work could maybe give me a few comments on the systems they
used, problems they encountered etc. Any other development environments
that I don't know of yet... please let me know.

Will probably hit the search engines tonight and see what I can find but a
prelim search just gave far too many crap matches

Thanks & Regards
Michael Anthon
