STOP PRESS:

LINUXPLAZA WAS AWARDED BEST PRODUCT AT THE LINUX OPEN SOURCE EXPO

PRESS RELEASE

LinuxPlaza introduces Linux expertise to corporate Australia

Open-source becomes a corporate resource for Australian businesses

Sydney - 8 March 2000 - LinuxPlaza Pty Limited, which offers Linux product and consultancy to the corporate and government sectors, was launched today at Linux Open Source Expo & Conference.

Central to the new business is LinuxPlaza.com, a web site which provides a source of local information and a focal point for those working with Linux in small, medium and large environments.

It includes detailed product information and also addresses local business and technical issues via daily news feeds, opinion articles and technical support.

LinuxPlaza is a member of the Unixpac group, a major provider of Unix products and consultancy to Australia's corporate and government sectors over the past decade.

Group managing director Tom Piotrowski says LinuxPlaza provides the project management and technical leadership needed in the fast evolving Linux marketplace.

"We already know from our customers' experience that Linux has proved itself to Australian business and the benefits of using open source as a robust solution that can lower costs and align IT with management," he said.

LinuxPlaza sales director Mr Edward Lenta says Australian organisations are now ready to seriously consider investing in Linux to support applications across the entire spectrum of the enterprise.

"Australian CIOs are not only asking "what's next after Windows" but "where else can I put Linux.

"LinuxPlaza.com is about the exchange of news and ideas. Local Linux developers and users will use the site to discuss issues and experiences.

"If a company needs assistance migrating to Linux, justification for the move, examples of how it is done or a place to see what's available, LinuxPlaza is the ideal forum," he says.

LinuxPlaza will also play a unique role by providing a value-added channel for Linux vendors looking to create a presence in the Australian corporate market.

"Our strengths lie in our combination of Unix experience and the partnerships we have with the leading Linux industry players," Mr Piotrowski said.

LinuxPlaza.com currently sells and supports the top Linux distributions, including: Stormix, SuSE, MandrakeSoft, Slackware, Red Hat, TurboLinux, and Corel Linux.

Other products include Arkeia Backup, Cobalt microservers, TripWire Security, Ecrix tape drives and a large selection of reference books.

While LinuxPlaza is set up to address corporate Australia the company has not forgotten the Linux philosophy - the importance of giving back to the Linux community.

"As part of this, LinuxPlaza will introduce initiatives that continue to foster the spirit of Linux's dedication to open source. We will help new developers and system administrators with education and certification and foster a collaborative environment," Mr Lenta said.

LinuxPlaza's first initiative is to provide free domain hosting for Australian Linux developers through Unixpac's ISP, BestNet at best.net.au.

During the Linux Open Source Expo & Conference March 7-10 2000 Darling Harbour LinuxPlaza is offering Linux products at the lowest prices (including free delivery) as part of the promotion of LinuxPlaza.com.au.
