Hi

I have configured two Redhat Linux 6.0 machines and connected them via a
crossover cable. I entered information in /etc/hosts on each machine to
refer to the other. I am able to ping each machine from the other by IP
address and alias name.

The next step I want to do is set up mailing using Sendmail. I don't
appear to have DNS (named is not running, and I can't find the expected
file /etc/named.conf). The book I have seems to imply that DNS is
automatically installed. It does not talk about installing DNS. I am able
to mail to accounts on the same machine but I get error (no response from
server) when I attempt to mail to an account on the other machine.

Questions
---------
1) Do I need to have DNS installed and running to use SendMail? Can I
somehow get Sendmail to use /etc/hosts?

2) Should DNS (named) have been installed automatically? I had a quick
look at Redhat packages on the CD but could not see one that suggested DNS
or named.

Regards

Gavin Lawson
