Make sure in your lilo.conf file that you use the default=<boot name>
option. If this is not used it will boot set the default image to the
first one in the .conf file.

boot=/dev/hda1
root=/dev/hda1
install=/boot/boot.b
map=/boot/map
vga=normal
delay=20
default=linux
image=/boot/bzImage-2.4.0-test10
    label=Linux
    read-only
image=/boot/bzImage-2.4.0
    label=Linux-old
    read-only

To check which is booting by default run lilo and the image that is set
as default will have an * next to it.

[root at zhaz /etc]$ lilo
Added Linux *
Added Linux-old

Always make sure you run lilo after making changes to the lilo.conf.
