I hear what you say but I repeat unless Humbug or similar organisations
were totally committed it would go nowhere in Humbug. I do not doubt the
ability of those in Humbug to do it but there needs to be considerable
commitment to the co-ordination aspects and organisation too.
To do it on a scale that would be needed you would need to go outside
Humbug to the general population.
1. Who will cough up the $600-$1000 a time for the Courier-Mail or
similar advertising?
2. Who will underwrite the venue and meals etc?
3. Who will order the many copies (and pay up front in advance) of
Linux?
4. Who will prepare the lecture notes etc (and pay up front)?
5. Who is prepared to take the commercial risk?
6. Who will pay the speakers, if they are not paid the risk is that it
will be a freebie and be put off.
I dare say not Humbug.
OK there are other ways of doing this at much reduced cost but I doubt
that it would work unless it was handled in a professional manner.
