Hm, well, I've been using a USB mouse since 2.2.12 or so with a XFree86
3.3.6 NVidia server. From the corel site, there doesn't seem to be
anything special about corel in particular beyond the ``Konnect Wizard''
and the USB audio driver, although the first has that suspicious KDE name
and the second is probably open source.
There are a host of USB devices that won't work with Linux simply because
they're closed hardware, just like there's a host of PCI devices that
won't work with Linux, but there's also a large number that use standard
protocols and *will* work.
Oh, and USB keyboards are often supported by the BIOS transparently to the
OS.
