Have a look into Herald (http://www.oucs.ox.ac.uk/email/herald/).
It's a real life clustered email (+) system run on Linux.  It was
designed in house by Malcolm Beatie (the number 4 person in Perl
development - try grepping the Perl source for "Malcolm" !).  More
