If you read the Cable Modem HOWTO in Linux you will find that out of all the
lists
of cable providers in the world, Telstra is the only one that implements a
propriatory
authentication protocol for the DHCP servers.  IE, you cant run the cable
modem
under linux.  However I have of rumours that there is some software available
mucked
together by somebody that will allow linux to use the modems etc.
