A browse on XFree86's home page <http://www.xfree86.org/cardlist.html>
reveals that the Trio 3D card should be using the XF86_VGA16 setting.  I
believe you said you were using the XF86_SVGA setting?  That may account
for the extreme slow speed (it's a wonder that it runs at all).

Run xf86setup (or in case that doesn't work, xf86config instead) from the
command line, it should take you thru the steps to configuring X again.  If
you have any problems, the url for the manual is at :
