hi,
   I've started running tcplogd on my box at work (Debian potato) and seen
   a line like this every so often, about once a week so far but never from
   the same host

Nov  3 19:59:17 mage tcplogd: port 1243 connection attempt from nas06-059.dialup.vicnet.net.au [202.137.72.124]

   port 1243 isn't open on my box, there's nothing in /etc/services and I'm
   not aware of any apps that run on that port....

   so the question is, wtf are these idiots trying to connect to?
