(Note reply-to: being general at humbug.org.au vs Michael Anthon <mca at tams.com.au>)

I have been trying to get the autofs system working under Linux (2.2.5). So
far I have managed to get the mounting of local devices working correctly,
but am wondering if SMB mounts (from Windows NT/95/98) can be auto-mounted.
In the man page for autofs(5), they give the following example ...

>EXAMPLE
> kernel -ro,soft,intr ftp.kernel.org:/pub/linux
> boot -fstype=ext2 :/dev/hda1
> windoze -fstype=smbfs ://windoze/c
> removable -fstype=ext2 :/dev/hdd
> cd -fstype=iso9660,ro :/dev/hdc
> floppy -fstype=auto :/dev/fd0
>
> In the first line we have a NFS remote mount of the kernel directory
on ftp.kernel.org. This is mounted read-only. The second line
> mounts an ext2 volume on a local ide drive. The third makes a share
exported from a Windows machine available for automounting.
> The rest should be fairly self-explanatory.

Now, this shows a smbfs fstype, but I can't get this to work, I get the
following messages in my syslog

Jun 1 11:13:08 belial automount[916]: attempting to mount entry
/pippin/installers
Jun 1 11:13:09 belial automount[11546]: cannot find mount method for
filesystem smbfs

It seems to me that some vital information is missing anyway (such as a
username and password to use when trying to connect). Does anyone if this
is possible, and if so, how?

Thanks
Michael A.
