[H-GEN] question

as I am very new to linux just still working things out
printing across to a smb server (win95 machine across the network) I can
print the test pages (ascii and ps) from printtool ok but say i want to
print something from gedit or any other application 
default print option is something like 
lpr %s

now (as far as I understand) the share is called lp1 (on the linux box) now
I have 100% no idea on what the print options are supposed to be.
