NE2000 adaptors use port I/O to move data, 8013 (WD and SMC) adaptors
use shared memory.   There is a considerable perfomance advantage to
the latter.

Have you tried the throurhput comparisons with the Intel Pro-100+ NICs?
It'd be interesting to compare these to the SMC/3Com/WD cards too.
