I have seen reports that indicate that this problem can be fixed with a
BIOS upgrade in some instances. Quote from Deja News:-
"I asked this question a little while ago and just wanted to report the
answer I'd found. An SA recommended that I upgrade the BIOS on my ASUS
P2L97 motherboard. I did it using a rather simple procedure, and now
the
hard drive works just as expected. Getting all those OSes to live
together
in harmony is another issue, but all the hardware matters are solved."
Also, there was a good disertation on it from memory (Don't hold me to
it) I think it was in Linux Gazette.
There is also a Hard Disk Howto if you like to read through it. Should
be on your CD.
