[ Humbug *General* list - semi-serious discussions about Humbug and ]
[ Unix-related topics. Please observe the list's charter. ]
Hi all,
The more politically inclined of you may have had a chance to look at the
Linux Australia mailing list. If not, you can see it ar
archive.humbug.org.au/lioz. November 1999 and December 1999 are the most
relevant months.
Basically at CALU99 MadDog of Linux International floated the idea of
Linux Australia becomming a Chapter of Linux International. Since then
people have expanded on the idea of LA becomming the representative
organisation for Linux in Australia with members being the companies
selling Linux and the LUGs.
HUMBUG needs a position on this.
So I ask you, the general membership, do you want/support:
1/ A local chapter of Linux International?
2/ A national representative organisation for Linux?
3/ 1 & 3 combined?
The exact benefits of a national organisation to HUMBUG is unclear, but
the following are claimed:
1/ Sponsorship
2/ Coordination
3/ National Representation
4/ Raise profile of Linux
Do *you* want HUMBUG to be involved in this sort of organisation?
LA has been an irrelevant force within the community. But it might not
always be. The executive needs to know your feelings to properly form an
oppinion.
Cheers,
Raymond
