What could be feasible is to *configure* a proxy-server to know that

        replicated1.somedomain.pleasenotdotcom and
        replicated2.somedomain.pleasenotdotcom

are in fact identical and to unify their caches. I imagine doing
this for say the top 20 big sites (search engines, news services,
microshaft etc) could be useful.

Fsck knows if anyone has actually done it.

cjb.

p.s. Having a proxy server do this automatically for any two random
servers would of course be a Bad Thing.

p.p.s. WTF is "we're the dot in dot.com" supposed to mean? I can only
suppose some marketroid at Incandescent Heavenly Body Inc.
must reckon the sun shines out of their dot.
