Have you tried other resolutions. Do you know you can change resolution by hitting Ctrl-Alt-+.

X is probably starting at the first reolution it is finding. You can change this by running the
XConfigurator or editing the X config file - Xf86 config IIRC (if you are non-newby enuff or game enuff)

As far as I am concerned you can ask as many and as stupid questions as you like.

In Linux (without good documentation) it is the best way to find things out.

And while you are finding things out some others of us will come across things we either did not know or forgot too.
