Dinosaur, my desktop linux box at work, is an ancient dual p90. Her current
up time is 26 days, with a contant load of 2.00 due to rc5. I recently ran
aj's little time discrepancy program thingie, and it ran for over 3 hours
with no problems. The kernel is 2.2.3.
I do a lot of compiling, and a lot of software testing on it, and I've yet
to have it fall over due to linux/smp/hardware interaction..
My first port of call would the scsi adapters. Adaptec's and Buslogic's work
very nicely in my experience. It's quite possibly the case that the driver
is a little on the dodgey side. When it falls over, is the disk activity high?
After that, I'd try the network card. Tulip's have known stability problems
with smp and linux iirc.
