Hi all.
I have the following for sale, I'm asking $200, since it cost me $300
to buy it in the first instance, but I'll consider serious offers about
that range.
The hardware is as follows:
1 DECstation Personal 5000/25. /* yes, this was previously freezer */
It has 16M ram, plus another 8M on-board, and a MIPS R3000 CPU running
at 25MHz (though I would estimate that running speed rates it at about
a 486/66) and on-board SCSI ports (two). The input devices are an LK401
keyboard, and a "hockey-puck" mouse (it *never needs cleaning, quite a
nice design really).
The DEC also has a standard RS232 serial port (for a modem or dumb
terminal), an external SCSI port, and an AUI port with AUI-BNC transceiver
included. There are two TurboChannel slots left empty for other cards
to be plugged in; either UQ's math department or the DSTC may have some.
And the highlight: a 17" grey-scale monitor, which runs X quite nicely.
This beast has served as my X Terminal for the past 9 months, and will
run NetBSD or Ultrix, if you have a copy. I've been using this machine
for quite some time now, and I'm more than happy to provide an amount
of technical support to the buyer, who I hope can look forward to the
same pleasure and learning that it gave me.
Please note that I think the disk included (an RZ25) has irrecoverable
errors, and will probably need to be replaced---these machines only know
how to talk to SCSI disks, so you will need one of those.
[Alternatively, you could probably do a TFTP or MOP boot, since the DEC's
firmware supports that. A nice hobby to keep some enthusiast interested
for a weekend.]
*sigh*
