You may have noticed an absolutely abhorrent and asthetically appalling  
'Golden Casket' sign has appeared on Staff House road. This is part of the
campus newsagency which is relocating from the union building to beside
the bookshop. No doubt some people will have no problem with this
bright and bankrupt backdrop. If however you do have a problem with
this carbuncle on the cultural credibility of our campus read on.

I have spoken to 'Steve' in the newsagency who reckons that:
1. Planning permission was granted.
2. His hands are tied by Golden Casket (some sort of contractual
obligation?).

I have spoken to 'Peter' in Property and Facilities who reckons:
1. The plans which were approved didn't include the signage.
2. A letter will be written to the newsagency people asking that the sign
be removed/modified/....


So, comrades, what is to be done. If you agree that the sign must go, and
believe that it is better to be safe than sorry where bureaucratic
processes are involved, send a short email to:

indicating your view. These will form the basis of an email petition if
this becomes necessary.

I am also collecting pithy descriptions (I like alliteration myself),
limericks, and whatever else comes along. These will be compiled onto a
web page; http://www.bit.uq.edu.au/HoldenGaskets.html when you all provide
some content.
