[H-GEN] squid parents

Hmm... I have an interesting problem to propose to the wise folk of
humbug, concerning my network configuration at home.

fuzzy is a linux box without a modem close-by, but attached via ethernet
to two windows boxen that do have modems and phone lines.

At any one time, one of the windows boxen (dad, and heather) may be
connected to the internet, and run the "spaghetti" proxy to allow fuzzy to
see the world via http.

fuzzy runs squid locally, and can happily talk to the internet through
dad or after a restart, heather.

Hacking the config files is a messy business, hence I want to make squid
ask both, and see who responds.

Simply setting both machines to be parents does not work. When this proxy
program recieves a requiest, but is not connected... it just... sits
there. It seems that squid takes this as a "I'm just taking my time about
it", hence it never tries the second addres.

So what I want is for squid to ask both machines simultaneously, knowing
only one will ever respond.

Can anyone offer hints?

        fuzzy BSc.
