[H-GEN] RH modules

Hi all,
Does anyone out there in RedHat Linux land know which module
char-major-4 is? I'm running my sparc headless at the moment, and
every 5 minutes /var/log/messages is getting a whole series of
messages that look something like this:

May 20 12:48:25 triffid init: open(/dev/console): No such device
May 20 12:48:27 triffid modprobe: Can't locate module char-major-4
May 20 12:48:27 triffid /sbin/mingetty[24765]: /dev/tty6: cannot open
tty: No such device
May 20 12:48:28 triffid modprobe: Can't locate module char-major-4
May 20 12:48:28 triffid init: open(/dev/console): No such device
May 20 12:48:30 triffid init: open(/dev/console): No such device
May 20 12:48:29 triffid /sbin/mingetty[24769]: /dev/tty3: cannot open
tty: No such device
May 20 12:48:31 triffid modprobe: Can't locate module char-major-4
May 20 12:48:31 triffid /sbin/mingetty[24773]: /dev/tty6: cannot open
tty: No such device
May 20 12:48:32 triffid init: open(/dev/console): No such device
May 20 12:48:33 triffid modprobe: Can't locate module char-major-4
May 20 12:48:33 triffid /sbin/mingetty[24777]: /dev/tty3: cannot open
tty: No such device
May 20 12:48:33 triffid init: Id "3" respawning too fast: disabled
for 5 minutes
May 20 12:48:34 triffid modprobe: Can't locate module char-major-4
May 20 12:48:35 triffid /sbin/mingetty[24781]: /dev/tty6: cannot open
tty: No such device
May 20 12:48:35 triffid init: Id "6" respawning too fast: disabled
for 5 minutes

Now this indicates 2 problems to me. The first is that modprobe is
trying to load char-major-4 and can't find it. Then when it tries
printing this to the console it can't find the console and init emits
an error.

Firstly, does anyone know what char-major-4 is, and how I can remove
the reference to it?
(conf.modules is empty and I couldn't see any apparent references to
anything like it in /lib/modules/2.0.30/modules.dep)

Secondly, (and this one should be simple) how do I appropriately
redirect the console? I've never had to do this before now.

TIA
Paul
