[H-GEN] Queries

Hello humbuggers,

I am seeking information on a few queries if some of you might be able
to assist.

1. JAVA and NETSCAPE

I have been using Netscape 3.01 and 3.04 for Linux on Red Hat 4.0,4.1
and 5.0 for some time now with Java crippled. I never really made the
time to get it right and it was never critical for me anyway. However, I
have now determined that it should be fixed. [I know that, for a
university group, investment and investment strategies are not high
priorities - well not as high as eating and rent for instance - but, as
you asymptotically approach geriatric status, its priority changes (let
me recommend the Securities Institute Post Graduate Diploma in Finance
and Investment course to you). The Australian Financial Review (in their
Trading Room) has a nice Java facility where you can track the
All-Ordinaries Index almost live (updated every minute)].

Now I have ensured Java_301 is in the correct place butit still won't
work. I believe that it is because Netscape points to some libraries
which might be somewhere else (or some such). Java starts and the applet
loads but will not execute and Netscape falls over with a bus error. I
am sure you all know the problem.

Can anyone tell me A) will changing links and libraries fix the problem
and B) point me to som e reference that will reveal all to me. Every now
and then I stumble over this information but I hjave always managed to
lose it before I fix Java.

2. NETSCAPE FREE

I see many references to Netscape noe being free. However, my
understanding is that "free" means that the source is freely available,
not that there is no licencing fee for etscape 4. If anyone has an
authoritative reference to Netscape bing $FREE not just SOURCE_FREE (for
non-academic, non-government, non-charitable institutions - ie
uq.net.au), I would appreciate such information.

3. BUS MASTERING

I have recently obtained a motherboard enabling bus mastering (VP3
chipset,AGP slot...very quick from what I have seen so far and low cost
too). I know that Linux supports bus mastering but does anyone know of a
good reference that might give me more information? Is it effective for
EIDE drives or is it hardly worth the effort (as has been suggested).

TIA
