[H-GEN] Single-board computer dev kit options?

I'm designing a wearable computer, relying on an audible interface and a
braille/chording keyboard-- no dorky and expensive strap-to-your-head
VDU. :) Eventually, it'll have a small posix kernel, with a "audio
shell", 2x stereo ADC/DAC (for headphones and cassette/audio CD port),
serial, and a few other goodies. (I'm aware of the Dontronics,
www.wearables.org, and DEC's palmLinux stuff..)

I've already searched about myself, but does anyone know/recommend an
inexpensive (to develop[1] and produce--under ~$300) single board
computer/embedded controller?

[1] both for the programmer hardware, and software-- keeping in mind I
*don't* have Win95 that a lot of systems want for crossdev...
