Well basically you just grab the client, install it and run it.  If you
use debian, then there's even a nice package ("distributed-net" I
think) which does it all nicely.

In practice, you probaly (a) want to have it started automatically on
boot up, (b) be configured more accurately than the defaults (the
help is quite clear) and (c) register with a team (and of course you
want to register with Humbug don't you ? :-).  To join the team, make
sure your config file gives your email address.  Now run it for a day
before checking the rc5 WWW site.  Search for your email and ask for it
to send you a password.  Using that, you can then change your personal
data (same www site) and choose the team you wish to donate your work
to.
