I'm afraid that due to the move from libc5 to glibc2 an upgrade from 4.x
to 5.x almost never goes smoothly.  It is strongly recomended that you
backup and reinstall.  (Although if you seperated your partitions
properly, you shouldn't need to backup much at all).
