More seriously: are you sure you want xemacs, rather than emacs?
The emacs source forked a few years ago into two competing versions,
GNU emacs and xemacs (vaguely like gcc and egcs). Both support X11.
The standard version on RH is GNU emacs. If you install the binary
RPMS for emacs-*.i386.rpm and emacs-x11-*.i386.rpm then you
will have a wonderful integrated extensible editing environment.
If you run it from X, you will get a windowed version (including
mouse, keyboard, fonts, syntax-highlighting, clipboard, and scrollbars)
If you run it from a text-console, or with the --no-windows option, you
will get a text version.
You can still install xemacs if you have a strong preference. It's hard
to tell from your report what is broken: you should generally quote the
relevant lines of the makefile in these situations. There are probably
binaries for Hurricane anyhow.
