[H-GEN] degrees of filesystem sickness?

/me kicks self in head...

Be that as it may, Robert and Martin's suggestions to do with debugfs and
fdisk sound like hours of fun. However, these things (i.e previously
unencountered os dramas) are huge time sinks, and I'm going to have to
wait a week or two before I can play properly. 

In the meantime, thanks for the pointers.
