Yep. In an ideal world everyone would use SGML or PDF/PS.

This is an unacceptable solution, especially if one often receives files
in the incompatible format. Remember the adage: "reboots are for kernel
upgrades"? Well it just ain't true if I've got to switching between OSs to
get my work done.

The average user will not even bother.

Now this is closer to the ideal (BTW, I think Sun have a product like
Wine for Solaris). Even better would be to get apps for UN*X systems. 
Ease of use and lack of applications are the two bugbears of UN*X. We UN*X
supporters should at least attempt to address the criticism.
