upgrade to ircii 4.4, run debian, and forget about having to do this
yourself. :)

seems tht you'd want to strip the first word, then the :, then the
^Cx[,y] bits .. I don't understand how you're being left with a space

I assume you have your own code to deal with the colour codes?
