Self regulation is a weird thing, you will all have no doubt noticed
how the quality of our media (print/electronic) has climbed as a
result of self regulation.
Same same taxi licensing, you used to do a course run by the cab
company, then a written and practical test administered by the
transport department. I don't know the figures, but now it is all
done by the cab company, guess what, there are now fewer fails.
I'm undecided, except to say if nothing else a strict membership
requirement like the institute of engineers might leave you (as the
client) with some warm fuzzy feeling. I also believe they have some
kind of liability insurance so you _may_ get more than a sorry.
Needless to say this is all my rant, the opinions of Queensland
Transport are not represented above.
