I had a hand in getting kerneld support into the kernel, not modules per
se. Funnily enough I now no longer use kerneld (but it has it's place :)
Modules are great for experimental stuff, vendor supplied drivers (they
can refrain from releasing src if they feel they have to), and
also occassionally used stuff. In the case of regularly used s/w, I think
that compiling the driver into the kernel is a good idea.
