/me passes a psychadelic-impregnated CACM article to Andre.

(Doh! Don't read this, Rob.) :-)

Isn't that one of the standard Mesa demos? ;-)

I think I have an article somewhere (waves at bookshelves) about
producing a convincing simulation a la $(xlock -mode starfield). I
suppose OpenGL programmers scoff at doing it using random numbers in
2D -- I don't know how you do it in OpenGL without creating all of the
points individually. Particle systems?

Speaking of such things, I think a game based on $(xlock -mode galaxy)
would be cool.

Hack, then; strive against Mighty Problems, have joy in thy
Striving, and let the Crashes fall where they may (maintaining
the while, for the Good of thy Karma, a Rigorous Backup Policy).
