Bleh.  You fail to mention slackware 3.4, which I have found to be far
better than either of the package-touting distros. :)

With slack, you soon learn to compile all your stuff and not have to worry
about whether a packaging tool will recognise that you have installed
non-rpm stuff.  I can understand the pros of rpm and dpkg, but personally,
I've found they annoy the hell out of me.  Another point is, slackware
tends to install in about 100-180mb depending on options (i.e. 100mb isn't
a minimal install, I'm not sure what is).  Although I would advocate
slackware, and watching update lists for new releases of software, or
periodically dropping by prep and sunsite to pick up stuff.  I would say
that debian offers far more options than redhat, and that always tends to
fill ones hard-drive with the... gee, that'd be fun to play with...

anyway.... I still think you're missing the significant other out of the
debate. ;)
