group).

Raymond.

> OPTUS NETWORK IMPROVEMENTS FOR AARNET
>
> BACKGROUND
>
> The AARNet Optus Network was built during the months of April to August 97.
>
> The National network comprises ATM connections (and Frame Relay to Hobart an
> d
> Darwin).
>
> International configuration comprises bandwidth to the USA via UUNet (16M)
> and
> CWIX (20M), with presently an additional 4M to UUNet terminated in Sydney.
>
> Fine tuning of the international network is currently occurring as Optus beco
> mes
> familiar with traffic flows and trends.
>
> The following network improvements are scheduled to occur, to further improve
>
> the capacity and performance of the network, and connectivity to Tier 1 USA
> ISPs.
>
> NETWORK IMPROVEMENTS
>
> SHORT TERM (currently)
>
> Fine tuning of load sharing between UUNet and CWIX routes.
>
> Fine tuning of routing from RNOs.
>
> Escalation of CWIX USA connectivity to CWIX Managing Director (initial
> response due Friday 26/9/97).
>

> INTERMEDIATE TERM (within 6 months)
>
> Increase of UUNet bandwidth by 8M, scheduled for implementation in
> October 1997.
>
> Provision of additional 12M bandwidth from new supplier, currently
> scheduled for 12/97, terminated in the USA.
>
> Provision of Optus routers in USA, and local loop connectivity to Tier 1
