[H-GEN] Booting an SS20 from the serial port

Any tips on booting a SparcStation 20 across the serial port?  The initial
message identifying the machine comes across OK at 9600-8-n-1, but after
the POST it displays garbage as if the serial line parameters were wrong.
Any ideas?
