I thought they just did 'limited autoprobing' but I can't swear to it.

Yep, specifying one of the irq and ioport is a good way to see a card too.

Here's a question regarding 2 network cards while we're on the subject.
Bra dn I put 2 3c509 cards in a box tonight.  The box would fail to
recognise one of the.  The 2 cards were using irq 3,ioport 0x200 and
irq 10 and ioport 0x300.  The first of the 2 cards was seen but the 2nd
(irq 10) was always missed despite us doing an ether=10,0x300,eth1 line
and lots of variations.  Are there any known problems with putting 2 3c509
cards in a box?
