Other free operating systems (w/ source) that come to mind:

  * VSTA (microkernel, GPL, nearly everything from GNU ported, but ran on
    a FAT filesystem the last time I checked)
  * Hurd
  * E"L"KS (run i86 code on a i586-- be brave :)
  * ?FreeDOS (an MSDOS6 clone, but better that than put up with some
    311+3 Linux hacker-poseurs who've never looked at source before.. :P
  * a remodelled microkernel Linux
  * BSDLites (microkernel 4.4BSD)
